Tulum Opens New Free Beach Access Points Inside Jaguar Park

Residents and visitors now have more opportunities to enjoy Tulum’s coastline freely, following the official opening of additional public and free beach access points within Jaguar Park (Parque del Jaguar). The announcement was made during a site visit led by Governor Mara Lezama, Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, and Tulum Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo.
The newly inaugurated entrances include Playa Santa Fe, one of Tulum’s most emblematic beaches, which has been fully reopened to the public. Authorities confirmed that these new routes will allow access every day of the year — for locals, Mexican nationals, and international visitors alike.
According to Secretary Rodríguez Zamora, this initiative aligns with the federal vision promoted under President Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration, which seeks to ensure that Mexico’s beaches remain public, inclusive, and accessible to all. “We are opening two new access points where everyone can freely enter the beaches, 365 days a year. Within Jaguar Park, five beaches are now available to the public,” she said.
Governor Mara Lezama emphasized that restoring free entry to Tulum’s coastline responds to a long-standing community demand. “The traditional access, the one most requested by the people of Tulum, is officially open starting today — because access to the beach is a right, not a privilege,” she stated.
Improved Infrastructure and Signage
The reopening includes significant upgrades to the Santa Fe access route, with clearer pathways, environmental signage, and defined wayfinding from the main road to the shore. Security and visitor information points have also been established to ensure a safe and orderly experience while protecting the surrounding ecosystem.
Governor Lezama confirmed that 20 directional signs will be installed — four along Federal Highway 307 and sixteen “totem-style” markers leading to the various access points — making navigation easier for beachgoers.
Expanding Free Access Across Tulum’s Coastline
Mayor Diego Castañón highlighted that, beyond the newly opened routes within Jaguar Park, two additional free beach entrances — Playa Conchita and Playa del Pueblo — are already operating in the Hotel Zone, at kilometers 4.5 and 5.5 of the coastal road.
These combined efforts form part of a broader initiative between federal, state, and municipal authorities to ensure equitable access to Tulum’s natural assets while reinforcing its reputation as a destination that values sustainability, inclusion, and community wellbeing.
